Israeli Spyware - Massive data leak reveals spyware used to globally target activists, journalists and politicians
Canadian based Citizen Lab (University of Toronto) has investigated two major Israeli spyware called (1) "Pegasus" and (2) "Candiru". (At least these were the two major spyware I read about when researching their findings):
(1) -Pegasus- is a spyware developed by the Israeli company "NSO Goup". Government operatives were detected by the Citizen Lab using Pegasus spyware to hack phones. Only in their investigation it was discovered that at least 36 personal phones -belonging to journalists, producers, anchors, and executives at Al Jazeera- had been hacked, surveilled and fully monitored. The journalists were hacked by four Pegasus operators, including one operator MONARCHY that they attributed to Saudi Arabia, and one operator SNEAKY KESTREL that was attributed to the United Arab Emirates.
(2) -Candiru- is a secretive Israel-based company that sells spyware exclusively to governments. Using Internet scanning, the Citizen Lab identified more than 750 websites linked to Candiru’s spyware infrastructure. The heroic professionals at University of Toronto (the Citizen Lab) found many domains masquerading as advocacy organizations. - Even in these troubling times I think it should be considered a -sensational scandal beyond belief- that the following organisations were included:
(I) Amnesty International
(II) the Black Lives Matter movement
(III) Media companies [No specifics mentioned]
- and most disgraceful of them all -
(IV) other entities relating to the PROMOTION or PRESERVATION of countries' civil society (democracy).
